Railway Ministry's Watered Down Response to CAG Report The Centre's decision to install a "Tank to Tap" water filtration system at railway stations is a long overdue move, but its effectiveness in addressing the issue of safe drinking water on India's rail network remains uncertain.
A recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) highlighted the presence of E. coli bacteria in drinking water samples collected from various railway stations across the country.
The CAG study, which assessed passenger services at 512 non suburban grade railway stations, found that many water coolers on these platforms were breeding grounds for harmful pathogens.
