The Price of Prevention: Middle Age and the Dementia Risk A recent study from NYU Langone Health has highlighted the importance of maintaining normal blood pressure, avoiding diabetes, and not smoking between 45 and 65 in preventing dementia.
While these findings are consistent with existing research on brain health, they underscore the critical role that midlife lifestyle choices play in determining an individual's risk of developing dementia.
The study, which followed over 12,000 people from age 55 for an average of 26 years, found a clear correlation between the presence or absence of these three risk factors and the length of time individuals lived free from dementia.
