US: Hawaii Narrowly Avoids Direct Hit as Hurricane Lala Brings Strong Weather As the Pacific hurricane season continues to wreak havoc on islands and coastlines around the world, Hawaii narrowly avoided a direct hit from Hurricane Lala.

The storm's trajectory took it just north of Oahu, sparing the densely populated island from the worst of the damage.

The storm made landfall on Tuesday afternoon as a Category 3 hurricane, with sustained winds of approximately 120 miles per hour and gusts reaching up to 150 miles per hour.
