However, a recent study has revealed these same organisms play a critical role in exposing the shocking levels of microplastic pollution along India's western coastline.
The study, published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin, analyzed barnacles collected from 13 locations along Gujarat's coast and found alarming levels of microplastics.
